Dragons Rise As Clouds Gather. The Coming of Age of China's Hacking Community
Over the last half decade, a remarkable expansion has taken place in China's information security scene: what was an isolated regional market has developed into a mature global player. While feared as a strong adversary in the offensive security arena, it has also developed an innovative security research community, which frequently claims top prizes in global challenges.
In this talk, you will hear some stories from China's hacker community throughout this period, illustrating the resilience of the hacker spirit in its various encounters with cultural norms of education, management, and temperament.
This talk will also cover some of the legal and cultural challenges faced by Chinese security researchers, and attempt to make clear some subtleties of life in mainland China which are often overlooked in western cybersecurity publications.
